Aegean Cultures

On the islands south of Greece, a unique culture was rising.  Characterized by both technological and social sophistication, the Aegean isalnds possessed such unique characteristics as flush toilets and women's rights.

Little was known about these cultures until the unearthing of The Palace of Knossos in 1900.  This archaeological site not only shed light on the legend of the  Minotaur , it also brought to light a number of beautiful frescoes and statues such as the  Snake Goddess. The Aegean cultures are particularly important since their citizens may well represent the ancestors of Greek culture.
